I see Windows 10 Professional and Windows 10 Enterprise listed on System Requirements... does Home version work with GP2015R2?

    Ken,

What Richard & Bill mentioned is exactly what I feared.. the users will be able to logon to the web client, but not thru Windows Authentication... they'll prompted to enter credentials that will be linked to their GP user account.

You said something about O365 accounts ? O365 user accounts can be linked to a domain account once it's setup : support.office.com/.../Add-your-users-and-domain-to-Office-365-6383f56d-3d09-4dcb-9b41-b5f5a5efd611

For MR, as Richard said, you're going to be out of luck as it relies 100% on Windows Authentication... so unless you're able to link the O365 user account with the domain account, this is not going to work.

    Thanks for the confirmation Richard.

As to making the Web Client work without Domain has been made to work.  I had a client while testing our Web Client deployment that attached to the web client on none domain machines.  The users were at that time all set up as 'local' server users - so that when the users try to login - they enter the local workstation login - it works.

Bill is correct. Without being able to log in the domain there will be no way to run MR on these laptops. I am surprised to hear that the web client works since that also uses Windows credentials unless you have them using SQL authentication. I would request an upgrade for all these laptops. You should never use a Home version of anything in a business environment.

Ken, as best I know MR will only work based on the user credentials ( Windows Credentials ) where on the server you are entering DOMAIN credentials, you are not using the same on the workstations.

The web client allows you to log on with the Domain Credentials, but no such option is available (as far as I know) to make MR work any other way.

Unfortunately the customer has Windows 10 Home on all new laptops.  After meeting with IT we decided to deploy the Web Client.  So far so good... we've been able to get the users logged onto the web client.  We are punting on the fat client for now.

However we can't seem to get the MR users to log onto MR.  It works fine on the server (using their credentials), so it seems the deployment itself is good.

One detail I've discovered is that the users are all logging onto their new laptops using credentials for... possibly Office365  -- and NOT their domain credentials.  I can't seem to figure out how to log into MR using another user with a right click -- like I can on the server.

Ken, I am in Richards camp on this one - but interested to know where you are running your SQL Server?  Is it on the same machine as the GP / Management Reporter?

If so, that is not really a solid test.

MR does not use ODBC in the same way as GP so ODBC not working is a different matter.

What version of ODBC are you running - must run 32Bit, regardless of the 64Bit version installed with Win10.  Without the 32Bit ODBC nothing works.

Hope this and the other comments help.

    Hi Ken,

It depends... if you intend to run only the GP Full client on Windows 10 Home Edition, this might eventually work (thought not a supported edition by Microsoft for GP).

Where you might run into issues is if you want to use it in conjunction with the GP Web Client and Windows Authentication.. As the Windows 10 Home Edition cannot be joined to a Domain, you are going to run into problem with the user authentication. Though probably not impossible, but it's going to create a lot of trouble probably.

Personally I would stay away from a Home Edition.

Soma -- it is interesting that we can't seem to get GP to work --  we can't get the ODBC connection to authenticate SQL.

Richard -- it is also interesting that we CAN get MR2012 to work without issue

W10 cannot be joined to your domain so there will be no Management Reporter. It is always advisable to go with the GP system requirements for GP. W10 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate are your options.

Yes. It will work for all Windows 10 Editions.
