Change the order of search result table-specific tabs

How is the relevancy of results determined? How would I go about reordering the tables that show up on the header following the top results? Can there be more than 3 tabs in the top result group that is fixed for every search? For example, tables A, B, C, D, E should always be in that order on the relevant tab (section 2), then the rest of the tables can be sorted by number of results.

    1. How is relevancy determined?

Dataverse search uses Azure fuzzy search and NLP, ranking results by matches in Quick Find View fields. Including table names (e.g., "account fabrikam") boosts specific tables. Top 20 results appear in "Top results," grouped by table.

    2. How to reorder table tabs?

Tab order is dynamic, based on result relevance. To influence:

    • Quick Find Views: Edit in Power Apps to prioritize fields (Tables > Select table > Views > Quick Find View).
    • Query Boosting: Use table names in searches (e.g., "account query").
    • Search Index: Enable/disable tables in Power Platform admin center (Settings > Features > Dataverse Search).
    • Custom UI: Build a Power Pages/app for fixed order (complex).

    3. More than 3 fixed tabs?

Yes, tabs reflect all tables with results, ordered by relevance (first three) then result count. Fixing A, B, C, D, E order requires a custom UI.

    Recommendations

Optimize Quick Find Views, guide users to use table names, or build custom UI for fixed tabs.

    Hi,

Great question! In Dataverse search results (especially in Power Platform portals or model-driven apps), the order of table-specific tabs and their relevancy is typically determined by:

    1. Search Ranking Algorithm: Microsoft uses a built-in relevance algorithm based on keyword match, field importance, and recent activity. This affects which tables appear first.

    2. Search Configuration via Site Settings: You can influence search behavior using site settings like Search/Query, Search/Filter, and Search/Results. However, these settings don’t directly control tab order.

    3. Custom Search UI: To enforce a fixed tab order (e.g., A, B, C, D, E), you would need to customize the search results page using Liquid templates or JavaScript in Power Pages or custom components in model-driven apps.

    4. Limitation on Tabs: By default, only three tabs are shown in the top result group. This is a UI design choice, and increasing this number would require custom development.

    Suggested Approach:

    • Use custom search rendering logic to define and fix the tab order.
    • Consider submitting a feature request via the Power Platform Ideas portal if native support for tab ordering is important to your use case.

    Hope this helps!
