Show recent opportunities in all stakeholders

Hi

By default a recent opportunity is shown in both the account and primary contact when they are tagged in the opportunity.

I wanted to ask if it was possible to expand this to allow a recent opportunity to be shown auto in any stakeholders that are added into the opportunity?

While not ideal, I have also tried to manually add the same opportunity to each stakeholder contact but get the error...

"The record is already associated with another record"

Has anyone any ideas on how to overcome? obviously the ideal solution would be to have the opportunities to auto add into each stakeholder record. But if that's not possible I would be happy with the manual addition.

Thanks

Glad you got it sorted. All that connection from/to stuff can make it hard work to get these right sometimes. You can create the connections from either end, so you might want to put in the role(to) and role(from) options in the filter, all grouped together in a big OR just to cover yourself.

I know in most cases they will be connected from the Opportunity using the sub-grid on the Opp form, but there is nothing stopping a user doing it from a Contact and connecting them to a load of Opps they are stakeholders for. These would then be missed out in your view.

"If you try to make something idiot-proof, they will just go and get a bigger idiot", but at least you can try to cover the bases.

    Got it working!

It was the filters! I had wrongly set the filters up using 'role (to)'

However you need to set the filters from the 'role (from)' field instead.

So now its all working :)

Each contact is now auto showing all opportunities they are connected to.  I even set in a column to show their name and role against the opportunity in the sub-grid!

    Perfect

    Cheers Adam

RE: Show recent opportunities in all stakeholders

    Hi Adam

I'm getting somewhere with this but not all the way

I created a new view in the 'Connection' entity called Recent Opportunities

I added in the following columns

    1. Topic (Connected To) - from opportunity
    2. Account (Connected To) - from opportunity
    3. Role (To) - from connections
    4. Connection Name - already in the form

The filters were then applied on role types to bring in all eg influencer etc

I then added in a new sub-grid in the contact area

    Set to show

    • Records - All Records Types
    • Entity - Connections
    • Default View - Recent Opportunities

What I see is the first two columns are blank. The role (to) and connection name columns are showing the names of the other other contacts that are connected to every opportunity. However you cant see what the opportunity is. Also you wouldn't need to see the other people, you would just need to see the opportunity name, this contacts name and their role only.

When i change the record back on the sub-grid to only related records I see nothing. If I click the show associated records above the sub-grid it shows the correct opportunity tagged to this contact

Any idea where Im going wrong?

RE: Show recent opportunities in all stakeholders

Stakeholders is just a clever sub-grid of Connections with some inline editing capability (to change the roles for example). You could create a custom view of Connections to filter for the roles you use for Stakeholders (eg Stakeholder, Technical Buyer etc). Then use this in a subgrid on the Contact form to show the Connections and hence the related Opportunities. This will also keep a distinction between Opps 'owned' by that Contact and those they are just tangentially involved in.
