How do you help planners prioritize Sales Orders from priority customers in D365 F&O

We’re looking for best practices or systembased ways to ensure that Sales Orders from VIP or  customers are automatically prioritized by MRP and production scheduling. even if it means delaying other orders with earlier requested dates.

Specifically:

  • How do you flag or tag a Sales Order as “priority”?

  • Is anyone using the Priority field on SO ?

  • Have you customized your MRP firming logic to auto-schedule or reserve capacity for these priority orders?

  • Do you manage this with coverage groups, forecast buffering, or reserved capacity?

  • Any clever workarounds or automation rules in use

  •

We want planners to see and act on priority orders first or even better have the system help them do that during master planning.

thank you for taking the time to read till here…

    Hi,

There is no feature in Dynamics 365 SCM directly that can reallocate reservations based on priorities. The Inventory visibility add-in has features for soft allocation.
See: Inventory Visibility inventory allocation - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

You can also consider a customization, but the MRP service itself can't be customized, you can only start post MRP run actions using an extension.

    Good day,

My suggestion would be to investigate the feature 'Priority based planning'.

Hereby a few links with more information:

There is also a possibility to assign priorities to customers:

    Best regards,

Good Morning Andre, thank you for taking the time to answer... Yes I have noticed that there does not seem to have such a feature.

thank you Laurens, Yes I have seen this, and I notice that in Planning one then gets a column Priority Planning, however if I understand correctly this is "only" a visual ID in Planning and the Priority planning Module does not then prioritize eg production, correct?
Is there a way to force planning to use the priority to force production?

    Thank you very much Gentlemen.
