Error while opening the entity records after customising the option-set

Hi All,

I am using the trial version of the Dynamics 365 v9.0. I have customized the Lead Source option-set in the Lead entity by removing some of the existing values and adding some new values. After this customization, I am no longer able to open any lead records, processes and business rules related to lead entity. I am not even able to open the field properties of the customized option-set. All of these operations are throwing the error as shown in screenshot below.

Please provide a workaround for this issue.

Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Nithya,

You are not supposed to delete the built-in status values of any entity in ms crm be it lead or opportunity or any other entity.

you can just rename the existing statuses according to your business requirements but don't delete them.

Deleting a built-in status can lead to very bad things happening to your system and you can’t replace the deleted value without a lot of work.

    You can try the below:

    1. Add the Lead source field from a trial CRM to a solution and try importing it to your system.

    2. Even if the issue is not resolved, contact microsoft support for further help.

    Thanks and Regards

    Sardar Ahmed.

It's a bit surprising that removing some option set values causes this. The way I'd address this is to reimport the leadsource option set values from a solution. If you have another environment with the original leadsource option set values , then you could export a solution that just contains this option set, then import into your environment that's not working, and publish the customisations.

If you don't have another environment, the easiest option is probably to create a new trial and do the same as above. Otherwise, if you know the values you removed, you could export a solution with the leadsource option set from the environment that's not working, manually edit the cusotmisations.xml (within the zip file) to add the values back in, then reimport

    Hi David / Sardar,

Exported the solution with the option-set field from a trial environment and now everything is fine.

Does it mean that we shouldn't delete the OOB values of an option-set as per our requirements?

    Hi Nithya,

Yes, its recommended that you should not delete the OOB option-set values as it will be used internally by MS.

If you find the answer as useful, please mark it as verified.

    Thanks and Regards
