Convert completed activity to opportunity

Hello,

in CRM dynamics 365, we would like to convert completed activities to opportunities as it is possible for an open activity. When the activity is closed the "convert to" button is not visible.

Is this possible? if yes, what is the best way to do it? if not, why this is not possible?  As we don't see a functional reason of this limitation.

Thanks a lot.

    Hello,

The default behavior of completed activities is to make them completely read-only and disable all actions for them, other than reactivation. This is because they are considered 'Completed' as in you are totally done with them.

To convert them to any activity to an Opportunity it has to be active.

You can work around this by reactivating your Activity temporarily and then converting it to an Opportunity. The activity will automatically be deactivated afterwards.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

    Hi Fed,

There is no OOB option to create Opportunity once activity is marked as Completed.

You can create a custom button using ribbon workbench and show it only when activity status is completed.

On the Button click you can call javascript and you can create a Opportunity through it.

    Hope this will help!!!

    Best Regards,

    Shahbaaz

    Hello Shahbaaz,

yes this is a possibility, but is this a good practice?  I mean if the system is designed in a way that the completed activities can't be converted ,  there should be a reason (maybe technical or functional). Then bypassing this with a custom workflow could have a technical or functional impact.

There is a simple function reason, if some activity is completed, then why would user want it to convert to opportunity, as it is already marked as completed.

As Michel suggest if you don't want any customization to be done then simply reactivate your activity and convert it to Opportunity and again mark it as completed.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Best Regard,

    Shahbaaz
