Duplicate rules "you can include only 450 characters in the matchcode"?

Hi all,

 

I get the following error message when trying to setup a duplicate rule?  "you can include only 450 characters in the matchcode"?

 

I'm trying to setup a rule that is and exact match of 3 criteria.

 

I would be grateful for any help.

    Hi again Gustavo,

    The above has helped to change/fix one of my rules, but I have a rule that contains 2 x option fields.  Even though the options only contain up to 20-30 characters the matchcode length allocates 255 per option field.

    Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Hi Devinestorm,

    According the article rc.crm.dynamics.com/.../source_dd_publishrule.htm, when you publish a duplicate-detection rule, a matchcode is created for every record in the matching record type for that rule.

    Moreover, this article http://rc.crm.dynamics.com/RC/2011/en-us/online/5.1_ctp/help/source_dd_editrule.htm has told about other important aspect:

    The number of criteria that you can select is limited by the number of characters that can be stored in the matchcode for the record. As you add criteria, watch the Current matchcode length value shown at the bottom-left of the Duplicate Detection Rule area.

     

    Based on a support case experience, I show you an example:

    Rules:

    First Name > Exact Match
    Last Name > Exact Match
    Email 1 > Exact Match
    Status > Exact Match

    These sets the matchcode length to 465. The 450 limit is not something that can be changed.

    One thing that we should be able to change, however, is the amount of the length being used per attribute.

    It was modified the rule to ensure the matchcode length total is under 450.

    For example, the maximum matchcode length of Email 1 is 100, so instead of using Exact Match, it was changed it to just use the same first 85 characters, as it is unlikely you will have any email addresses longer than 85 characters anyway.

    This changed the rule to appear as follows:

    First Name > Exact Match
    Last Name > Exact Match
    Email 1 > Same First Characters > 85
    Status > Exact Match

    I suggest you to apply these changes and try again.

    Hi Gustavo,

    Thanks for your response, although not sure how to limit the matchcode to only 450 characters.  I am using the custom built tool, and have tried to add 3 x criteria...........

    Is the system only designed for simple duplicate rules?

    It appears a behavior by design.

    You would better guarantee that the matchcode has only 450 characters.
