Intercompany Fixed Assets transfer

This seems like a very straightforward, easy to use feature; however I am not able to get the receviing company to have the assets added or even see a batch to be posted.  The originating company retires as expected, but the documentation says it will create the new asset if you want it to in the transfer window; which I selected.

I made sure that the setup in fixed assets was exactly the same in each company, classes, books, account groups, etc.  but still I dont see any activity occurring in the receiving company.  Is there something else I am missing that is right under my nose?

I would appreciate any feed back.

Its easy enough to deal with you just import into the new company, but it would be nice to be able to transfer, as my client has many databases.

thanks

Carolyn

    RE: Intercompany Fixed Assets transfer

    Hi Carolyn,

Did you check in the receiving company, FA Company setup (Tools>>Setup>>Fixed Assets>>Company) has 'Auto Generate Next Asset ID' check box is marked and set to a value like 'ASSET0001'.

I think if you mark 'Create new asset ID for destination company record' in Intercompany Transfer window and if u don't have the above setup it will fail to create the asset in the receiving company.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks,

    Kiran

    RE: Intercompany Fixed Assets transfer

    HI Kiran,

Okay, I must still be overlooking something very simple, so I am about to start another test.  I did go back in and check the auto create next asset number and when I check it shows the next number the be 000003; which would be correct as I transfered 2 assets; however you can't find the 2 assets anywhere.

I will check the sql tables and see what I find and then update the  post just in case someone else has this issue.  I do appreciate your suggestions.

    thank you

I thought I had it, but so far all I get is the fa batch in the originating company that shows it being transfered, but the asset still shows as active it is not retiring. the destination company shows no sign of the transfer.

for me the transfer did not work.  the window never clears after you select transfer.  I clearly made a mistake assuming it was due to the "refresh" issue you see on the other fa windows.

I tried every type of asset transfer from net book value to other and everything in between, but still can't get it to function. It has to be something under my nose it just seems too simple not to work.

If I ever get this to work I"ll update.

I did try to manually enter an asset in the destination company to make sure things were in place and that works fine.

    till later

Okay folks you will probably laugh your head off when you read this. I thought about not posting this, but in case any of you do what I did, this may help.  The key is that when you do the glpost  routine in FA to gl

you have to select the beginning date as the date that includes the placed in service date of the oldest asset that you transfered!   I also selected sale this time and entered the net book value.

Viola!  the asset is retired in the originating company, and created in the destination company.

told you it was something very simple.

    Hope this will help someone!

    RE: Intercompany Fixed Assets transfer

We are testing the fixed asset intercompany transfer feature and we are not receiving the expected results.  We want the asset to transfer with the same remaining life it has in the originating company, is that possible?  The asset is being transferred with "new life".  Example, asset has a 5 year life in originating company, with only 3 years remaining.  When transferred to new company, the asset life is reset back to 5 years, we want it to be 3.

    Kristie,

Were you able to successfully transfer assets?

We are using Net Book Value and it is not calculating the remaining life.

Also, it is not transferring the user data fields set setup.

    Wondered how your testing went.
