Importing Contacts - "Account Name" Lookup or another way?

Hi, I have a contact list and trying to import in to "account name" for the company and it will not import.  It shows "partially imported".  I'm assuming it's a lookup field since I added "account name" from "accounts" vs. fields from contact.  All the other fields are simple text so it pulls in whatever.  For the account name, I have already imported the same account names from my contact list in to accounts, which worked fine.

Anyway, if someone knows how to properly pull in contacts with the account name that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

OK, I'm an idiot.  My files were Excel, not CSV's.  Now I see all of this.  Trying it now.  Thanks again!

    I believe I tried a template and CSV(s).

Under Import Data, I believe it's built-in then there's "download template for import", but this does not have any of the fields I added.

Am I looking for something under excel templates or export to excel?

Also, you had mentioned going in to "data management", "imports" but the options look the same as if I'm looking at a view within contacts.  Nothing I can see on my edit is showing any mapping.

    Not sure what I'm missing.

    Appreciate your patience!

Are you using template or CSV? the mapping can be done in CSV..for template it is pre-mapped.

    Hi,

Didn't see any options.  I just see "allow duplicates" and then "select owner of imported records".

    Review Settings and Import Data

    HelpHelp

This action will update existing records, and, if required, create new records.  This action will update existing records, and, if required, create new records.

Review the default settings, make the necessary changes, and submit the data for import.

    Allow Duplicates

    No

    Yes

Duplicate records will be determined based on the duplicate detection settings in Microsoft Dynamics 365.

    Select Owner for Imported Records

    (My Client's Name)

    Click to select a value.

This user will own the imported records if the records do not contain owner information or if the records cannot be assigned to the specified owners.

Setting->Data Management->Import -> Select File-> select Entity and then this mapping will appear.

Thanks for the info.  Where do I go to see where it's mapped?

    Hi Mike,

Are all the account name unique? If not then this might be causing the issue.

I believe while importing the Contact record, you have mapped the account name to 'Account' lookup column in CRM. You can further select which field this name in file should map to in Account entity i.e. account name something like this :

    Capturemap.PNG

Otherwise, as Alok suggested, do share the error logs.

    Thanks,

    PS

You can get import error to resolve your issue.

To get error message Navigate to Settings and under the System column click on Data Management. In the new window, click Imports.

double-click on the name of the file you just imported .
