MR link to Excel problem

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

I have a report that was recently migrated from FRx to Excel.  A couple of rows are linked to an Excel spreadsheet, however on those rows none of the FD columns are populating.  In case it matters, those rows are restricted to particular nodes on the reporting tree.  For example, on the Row Definition for one of these rows, Column D has "UNIT=SUMMARY^EAST DIV", and Column K has "D=B17, I=B17 /CPO".  The Excel data is being brought in (although it appears that the Unit restriction is being ignored), but no FD data.  Would appreciate any advice or if someone could point me to an authoritative reference on linking to Excel in MR.

Thanks,

Joe

In case anyone else out there encounters this (see my message of July 2 above), our GP partner escalated this issue to Microsoft, and was told that MS was able to recreate the issue, and has added it to a list of potential updates for a future release.

Do you have segments in a row and in a tree that are the same?  MR doesn't handle that well at all and doubles the amounts on those rows that may have the same segment in a tree.

I've resolved part of the problem, but one issue remains:  with respect to the Excel-linked data MR is not adhering to the unit restriction that is specified in the Row Definition.  Data pulled from Financial Dimensions is fine; data pulled from Excel on the same report is not.  For example, if Row 30 is Eastern Division income and Row 60 is Western Division income, and each row is supposed to include $500 pulled in from Excel, then what I'm seeing on the report is that each of those rows includes $1,000, for a total of $2,000.  Total should be just $1,000.

I have looked in the MR User Guide (published March 2013 - is there a more recent one?), in this forum, and on the internet, but have not found anything addressing this.  Is linking to Excel incompatible with having unit restrictions in a row definition in MR?  (It wasn't in FRx.)  Is there some configuration issue that could be causing this?  I am at a loss.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Thanks.  We have multiple companies, but segments are all named the same in our case.  Sounds like this might be something different...

    Hi Joe,

I have seen the FD columns blank in a row definition after a migration if the company has multiple companies and the segments are not all named the same, especially in a row with multiple links.
