Localizing record names in entities

Hi there,

Is it possible with dynamics CRM 4 to localize (translate) the name of records of a given entity?

Say for example, the Sales Territories. I have the following:

  • North America
  • Central and South America
  • UK & Ireland
  • Northern Europe
  • Suthern Europe
  • Eastern Europe

I would like to translate their names, so for example, in Spanish they would look like:

  • América del Norte
  • América Central y América del Sur
  • Reino Unido y Irlanda
  • Norte de Europa
  • Sur de Europa
  • Leste de Europa

This way I could also add a "Country" entity which I would like to use, instead of country dropdown list...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
P.

Let's say we add a country entity with two attributes: name and language. Then you could add the language field to the find attributes and then when looking up you just type in the language to bring up the right list of countries. The coders probably have some nifty ideas as well using dynamic picklists or aspx pages when doing the lookup.

    Leon,

That is exactly what I managed to do. Problem is that the primary attribute for this COUNTRY entity is the ISO code. So when viewing the value in the ACCOUNT entity, the name label that will appear is the ISO code.

What I was trying to do is some sort of gimmick that instead would show the correct country name based in the languagepack loaded.

And no cheating allowed: That is, not using an additional field. ONLY the relationship with the COUNTRY entity as a lookup field in the form. Anything else would break the process anyway.

There are ways to adjust what is displayed when doing a lookup through code although I can't seem to find a link at this moment. Trawl the forums or use the Resource Centre and you should find it.

Failing this, you will need to make the country name the primary and the country ISO the secondary and add the ISO as a find field on the lookup view. However, I think you are suggesting this would not work for the business process.

You may be able to code an auto-resolution based on the user's language settings but, not being a developer, I wouldn't know where to begin. Hopefully others will step up to the challenge.

If I create a COUNTRY/REGION entity, I could add one nvar/text attribute for the COUNTRY/REGION name in English, then another for the COUNTRY/REGION name in Spanish, and so on.

Question is, if I do a relationship of this entity by adding a COUNTRY/REGION lookup field in the ACCOUNT form, how can I configure so the text in the lookup field would show the country/region name in either English or Spanish, depending on the loaded language pack.
