Shopify Sales Orders coming in as Invoices

I have a background job running to sync sales orders, but some are coming in as invoices instead. What is causing this?

Review your integration settings (Shopify Connector, API mappings, or job queue codeunit). Ensure the sync job is explicitly set to create Sales Orders and not auto-post them.

The reason Shopify sales orders are coming into your system as invoices instead of sales orders is typically due to the payment status of those orders during the sync.

If a Shopify order is paid at sync time, it usually syncs as a sales order or sales receipt. However, if the order is unpaid or partially paid, the sync process often imports it as an invoice to represent the outstanding payment. This behavior depends on how your integration or background job is configured to handle orders based on their payment and fulfillment status. To fix this, review the payment status of your Shopify orders before syncing and check your sync job settings in your system to ensure paid orders sync as sales orders and unpaid ones as invoices, or adjust these rules as needed. This way, paid sales orders won’t mistakenly appear as invoices.

Some Shopify orders come in as Sales Invoices because the connector creates invoices for orders that are already fulfilled or fully paid in Shopify (especially when Auto Create Orders is enabled on the Shopify Shop Card).

Check the Shopify order status and the Auto Create Orders setting. If you only want Sales Orders, import unfulfilled orders or disable auto-creation and create documents manually.
