How to remove certain Activity Types from Activity Type optionset?

We have created a custom model driven app. There we have created a simple, custom "My Open Activities" view.

Dynamics seems to automatically add a possibility to filter on certain Activity Types. In this list I would like to remove some of the Activity Types because they are irrelevant for the application and the users have requested them to be removed.

So how would one go about hiding for example "fax" and "letter" from this list?
