Sale Non-Stock Item at Zero Price

Is there a way in Business Central vs 22 to achieve the following:

I have a Client that would like to setup a non-stock item for /Fliers/ and send to their customer's at Zero cost.   They would mail the item and track the charge as an internal charge since the company would be paying postage.  They also would have an inventory cost associated to the non-stock item, and would like to count the item.

Yes, in that case you could use items with the type non inventory or with the type service. And tt would really be the same thing as using a G/L account in the purchase document. There could be several reasons to use a non inventory item instead of a G/L account though, for example, you want to setup pricing information in the item card, report on sold items, etc.

How should this be handled if they don't cost/inventory value or count inventory?  Would they ship/receive non inventory items on warehouse documents in Business Central?

Valentin provided sound solution, you could also consider create 50 variants for that item, if the pricing is the same.

It depends - do they need to track the inventory cost and count the items separately? Do the also run any reporting from the inventory subledger based on which specific item they sold? If so, then its probably a better idea to setup all 50 as separate items. But if they only need the combined inventory cost and count, then your idea of using 1 item works.

Thank you for the information.  One last thing there are around 50 fliers that are all titled different.  Would you setup one item and change the description to the name of that particular flier?  I don't think they want to create 50 individual items for these.

    This is what i got:

    • the item will be sold at zero price
    • the item will have a cost/inventory value
    • the item needs to be counted

Based on this criteria, only item type inventory works. Only items with the type inventory can be counted and have an inventory cost/value. So you'll just have a regular inventory item. To sell it with a price of zero you can enter 0 in the price field in a sales document. Alternatively, you can have a price for the item, and have a line discount of 100%.

To track the cost of mailing the item, you can use item charges.
