Windows 7 & RMS v2 Store Operations Manager

I am installing RMS v2 Store Operations Manager on a series of Windows 7 PC's. RMS only seems to work if the user has administrator access. Does anybody know anyway round this problem?

Thanks.

Simon.

    Simon:

I believe a "standard" (i.e. not "Administrator") Windows User can install RMS/SO but will be prompted for the Windows Administrator password every time Windows 7 system files will have to be altered by the install program.  This is for a standalone PC.

Whereas, for a networked PC, just logon using your system administrator id and password thus avoiding the (tiring) repeated install prompts for the admin password.

The problem is not related only to the installation, the real problem is that I cannot run the SO on Windows 7 unless I have administartion rights while it runs on Windows XP for normal users.

Can somebody from Microsoft reply on this?

One can use a Standard user for the Manager program without issues, POS requires the ability to write to the Registry.

    One could use Standard for POS if you grant read/write access to the following Registry key;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Retail Management System  for 32 bit systems

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Retail Management System  for 64 bit systems

One must use the Administrator to install the program though.

we run under different users in windows 7 simply by changing the compatibility and running the program as administrator for all users.  The option is available by right clicking the exe and selecting properties, then click the compatibility tab and check the box "run this program as administrator"

    Hello Simon,

    Thank you for your question.

Cgoff is correct; you would need to enable "Run as Administrator" for all users for Store Operations POS, as well as Store Operations Manager and Store Operations Administrator is they are going to be used by standard Windows' users.

Please also note that RMS has only been tested with Windows 7 Professional and higher. If you are running a version of Windows 7 below the Professional version, you will need to upgrade your Windows 7 installation before you would be able to receive support from the Microsoft Dynamics RMS Technical Support Team, as you would be running RMS in an untested environment if you did not upgrade.

    Thank you,

its very easy. Just change LUA mode from 1 to 0. Go this way. go in regedit, hk local machine, software, mocrosoft, windows, current version, policies, system.

then in right side panel click on enable LUA and put the number 0 and cick on ok.

    thanks.

I know this is a very old thread but having the same issue with Windows 8.1 and 2.0.2000. I enabled "Run as Admin" for all users and full permissions on the registry keys. Still asking password standard user. Let me know if its best to start a new thread.

Another option I have tried successfully is to rename the Manifest files within the Program Files\RMS\SO subfolder by adding an X prefix (ex: xSOADMIN.exe.manifest).  This "disables" the Manifest files which prompt the user to enter a username and password when launching the program.

Also check UAC.  That creates issues too.

Both solutions seemed to work for me. Disabling the UAC in registry and renaming the manifest files. My customer liked the renaming of the files better since it did not involve disabling security for the entire workstation; just RMS. Thank you all for your replies.
