CRM 4 - New Laptop, can't log in - 401.1, other laptops work fine.

We have a remotely operated CRM 4.0 server that is the sole PDC, SQL and CRM server in one machine. No other servers are involved other than the server points to an external DNS server for resolution.

The remote office with all of the sales people using the CRM system have no issues using the system for many months.

We purchased a single Sony VIAO laptop and installed all of the Windows Updates/VIAO updates, etc...

When trying to use IE 9 (9.0.8112.16421) to log into the CRM system (using DNS name or IP address), the password popup shows up. Trying to log in as the user or administrator, re-pops the login prompt.... after a few attempts the following error shows in the browser:

HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied

If we walk over to another similar laptop (Windows 7, etc...) on the exact same network as the troubled laptop and try to log in as the same users, it logs in no problems.

If I use Chrome on the working laptops trying to log in, CRM throws a nicely skinned html message about browser compatibility.

If I use Chrome on the non-working laptop trying to log in, I get the same pop-up login issues and then the HTTP Error 401.1 error above.

In my view, this means that it is not an IE setting but something else happening.

Does anyone have any idea of what might be happening here? It is specific to this one laptop, I can't say it's definately not the CRM Server, but I can't explain why one laptop doesn't work and the others do...

    Hi Chuck,

Having CRM server installed on a domain controller is not a supported environment. You could continue to look at SPN issues in the Event Viewer perhaps; however, I would recommend getting this installed on a supported environment before troubleshooting these types of issues.

    Yes, this was done.

I also went as far as to re-install Windows x64 non-Sony version on the same machine... installed the network driver, got an internet connection and still have the same results. Tried w/SP1 and without.

I also did the exact same thing using a VMWare install of Windows 7 (built-in drivers worked) and accessed CRM without issue.

I have take the laptop off-site to verify that it is not a network specific issue (same results).

    I'm open to any suggestions...
