Bing Map Key 2025

Hello,

I'm working on a University Master's project to optimize transportation routes for a colombian company by using the VRP (Vehicle Routing Problem) Excel Solver. This solver requires to have a Bing Map key however, BingMap is deprecated and will be retired and it's not giving keys to new users. The recommendation is to use Azure Maps but the current version of VRP Excel solver does not connect to AzureCloud.

Does any one know how to get the solver connected to Azure and get it to work? Or any free key available to use?

I appreciate any help provided on this.

Since Bing Maps is being deprecated and no longer issuing new keys, transitioning to Azure Maps is the recommended approach. However, the VRP Excel Solver currently does not support direct integration with Azure Maps. Here are some possible solutions:
    1. Modify the Solver to Use Azure Maps API
    • You may need to update the GetDistance function in Excel to call the Azure Maps Route API instead of Bing Maps.
    • If you're using VBA, adjust the API call to reference Azure Maps instead.
    2. Use Azure Maps Distance Matrix API
    • Azure Maps provides a Distance Matrix API, which can be used to calculate optimized routes.
    • You may need to manually integrate this API into your Excel Solver.
    3. Explore Third-Party Solutions
    • Some third-party tools have already migrated from Bing Maps to Azure Maps.
    • You might find an alternative solver that supports Azure Maps natively.
    4. Check for Open-Source VRP Solvers
    • If modifying the existing solver is too complex, consider using an open-source VRP solver that supports Azure Maps.

    Hope this helps!

My advice is to ask in the Azure community forum (Questions - Microsoft Q&A)
