Weight fields on item card

I have a questions regarding weight.
On the item card, there are three different fields for weight: weight, net weight, and gross weight.
Then there is also a weight field under item units of measure. I’ve noticed that neither the net weight nor the gross weight syncs with the weight on the units of measure.

Why is that?
And what is the intended purpose of the different weight fields, and how should they be used?

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

If you find on the Item Card that you have mentioned (0,5) on net weight, which is 0.
If you want to add the weight then it should be like below way in the item card.

If you have mentioned in the weight in item card and your Sales/Purchase Unit of Measure is different from Item Unit of Measure then you need to mention in the below field.

system will automatically fetch and calculate the net weight of item.

    I Hope this will help.

The documentation from Microsoft does outline how these are used: Set up item units of measure - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

The UoM values are used during calculations for bin activities:
If any of these fields contain a value other than 0, then that measure is used during all processes that involve placing items in a bin: put-away, movements, receipts, shipments, picks, and adjustments. Business Central checks the sum of each physical measure of the items being put away. It also checks the items already in the bin against the maximum size or other measure that can fit into a bin. This information comes from the bin capacity policy on the location card where you store this item. In other words, you must use the same unit measure for each dimension across all item units of measure - use kilograms or pounds for weight, for example, but be consistent.

From my testing you just need to update the UoM table manually. It will fetch settings from the item card but only for new UoM lines.

    Hello,
These fields don’t sync because they mean different things: Net Weight on the item is the product’s own weight and is used by features like Intrastat, Gross Weight is typically the item plus packaging/shipping weight, and Weight on Item Units of Measure is the weight of that specific UOM (like 1 PCS vs 1 BOX) and is mainly used for warehouse/bin-capacity handling together with height/width/length/cubage. So this separation is intentional—one set is item master/reporting/logistics data, the other is UOM-specific handling data, and auto-sync would often give wrong results.
