How to set up an item with assembly BOM items to automatically pull from the assembly items when it's sold?

Item A has item B and item C under its assembly BOM list. Item A has 0 quantity on hand. When item A is sold in a sales order, how can it automatically pull from the quantity on hand of items B and C?

I want item A's quantity to remain at 0 while B and C are decreased. However, item A is decreased to -1. Is this something that can be changed?

You can have the assembly automatically execute using the replenishment system of assembly and assembly policy of make to order, both fields on the item card under Replenishment. When the sales order is shipped, the assembly order removed items B and C from inventory, puts item A into inventory and ships item A. Effectively reducing inventory for B and C and item A remains at zero (one was added and one was deducted.)
