Hi:

What table, report, or "component" of Business Central will tell you if a sales document represents a back order?

Thanks!

John

This is a worthwhile report for this situation: Inventory - Sales Back Orders

In general the “Qty. Outstanding” is the main driver. Given that you can use reservations this adds another layer into the mix as a reservation can be on stock but also types of supply - PO’s, production orders, assemblies, transfers. If reservations are in use you would want something to assess that level of the data too. Would in essence give you a breakdown of things on back order that are planned and not planned from a supply stand point.

    Thanks, Josh!

When looking at a table, does Qty. Outstanding represent "back order".  And, if so, would this field be found in the Sales Line table?

No I wouldn’t say it does in isolation. That field is populated with a value even if you do have stock. It’s what the customer is waiting for. Back order being defined as what is on order but out of stock. The report I mentioned should give you most of what is needed as it considers each of the arguments involved.

    Thanks, Josh!

So, the report has the back order data.  But, there is no "back order quantity" field that could be pulled from the database into a custom report.  Is that correct?

Custom report wise you could do it. Pull in the available inventory count. If it is zero then you have the outstanding qty. as the back order qty.
