Importing 40k items

Hi,

Currently i am working on a project on which we also are doing the data migration from NAV 2009 to Business Central SaaS. The customers, vendors and all other records have been transferred to BC, although I do have issues with the items, as there are in total 40.000 items that need to be imported in Business Central. When I try to use the configurations packages from this, the loading takes way to long and sometimes even times out.

Is there perhaps a better way to import all these items, the mapping between NAV and BC has been done, so its just a matter of getting the data into Business Central. I am open to any workable suggestions!

Thans in advance,
Robert-Jan

For future refferences, I ended up with splitting the file in chunks of 10k items, just based of item number. Importing and applying took about 1,5h that way which was manageable.

    HI all,

Thanks for all the replies, I definitely have something to work with! Will first try to split the file up if that doesnt work, I will ask dev to make an XMLPort.

    Have a great day :)

If you want to avoid doing the DEV work try this: https://www.hougaard.com/bccl/

I would suggest to develop XMLPort. It is way much faster than Config Package. The time spent to develop it will be less than trying to import using Config Package.

    Hi,

I suggest you break items master data files into multiple files. You can segregate the data based on item categories or item numbers as you want.

We also did a migration of 60K items for one of our clients. I did the same and create multiple sheets of item data by item category.

    I hope it helps.

You can import them using the XmlPort, but you need to develop it and it is fast compare to a regular rapid start.
