Changing Language Base

Hi there,

May i know whether it is possible to modify the current language base of an organization?

Currently, our company has 3 different CRM organizations, China, Thailand and Korea respectively. Thailand and Korea is in English base while China was in Simplified Chinese Based as we perform import organization on the China organization. We like to standardize all the language base to english, and we are thinking of modifying through the database table localizedlabel instead of creating a new organization and perform manual uploading of data between the organization. Does anyone know how the version, objectID and localizedlabelid is being generated? I was thinking of using new() but it will only generate a random ID instead of an ID that is binded with the languge code. (Current default GUID of localizedlabelid are all binded with language code such as

00000000-0000-2052-00AA-000000666000 (2052=Simplified Chinese)
10000000-0000-2052-00AA-000000666000
00000000-0000-2052-00AA-000000666100

This applied to the Object ID as well.

Thanks

    Hello Roy,

The base language is assigned during the installation and aquisition of an organization in CRM. It is unsupported to modify this through SQL.So, I would advise against making any changes in SQL Unfortunately, the only time the base language is established is when the organization is created and cannot be modified after that time. If you truly wish to change the base language it would require a recreation of the organization through CRM Deployment Manager. You would then have to export and import all the customizations and data from the other organization. I apologize as this is not the ideal workaround, however, we will want to approach this through a supported method.

    Thanks,

Does this apply to CRM online as well, that I cannot change the language base?

My language base is German, and unfortunately the Translation of field names and other Terms is so poor that I can hardly match any Support Information given in the web (mostly in English) with the Terms I find in my System. It does not even help that I Change my user language to English, since I am not allowed to make any System changes because of the different language.

Its a mess and makes my life VERY complicated!

I would heavily appreciate if I could only make changes to the System using English as my user language...

    Pikealot,

We did manage to modify the Language base from Simplified Chinese to English via the SQL Database modification. But as suggested by Lance, it is not supported and not recommended by Microsoft. There is quite a few CRM system tables that you will need to modify and even though we are able to change the language base to English, most of the labels are still in the original simplified chinese when you set the language setting to English.

The best practise for the CRM setup should always be setting up the Organization in English base language follow by the language pack installed. Unfortunately, we started out with the CRM 3.0 when it is quite new back then and we make a mistake to setup the Organization in the ntive language instead of English.

The pain really kicks in when we consolidate and upgrade all our CRM organizations (which has different collation) into one box at a later stage of our deployment.......
