Manufacturing 'Pending issue' issue

Hi Everyone,

we are having an issue with 'pending issue' items just going to la-la land it seems.  In Manufacturing we build a picklist (doesn’t matter what) and it has multiple components on it.  we then print the picklist for those items and go to the shelf to pick them.  All are good but let’s say 1 item that requires 10 and GP inventory says 10 are available but we go to pick them and only find 9.  So we come back to component transaction entry and change to 9 and post the pick document.  It seems this 1 not assigned gets marked as pending issue and goes to la-la land.  Is this a common issue or something you have heard of?  It has happened multiple times and can be reproduced.

That happens to us a lot.  It also messes up our bin quantities (we're running multiple bins).  You can fix the pending issue problem (retrieve it from la la land) by manually correcting the MOP1400 table - assuming you have access to SQL.  I don't know how to prevent it from happening in the first place.  -Trevor

    Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the response.  I did see the Microsoft technote on how to run the script (Article ID: 953438).  This is happening more frequently as our inventory is growing so just wanted to see if anyone else had a better method.

If you go back to the picking ticket assigned to the MO, you can reduce the quantity to be picked to match the quantity picked.  Otherwise, your manual editing does the same thing.  You need the pick ticket numbers and these are found in the manufacturing activity inquiry.

BTW....our Shop Operations book covers this and several other issues.  Look at it at www.AccoladePublications.com

    Thanks Richard,

I bought your book for shop operations about 4 weeks ago and am a good chunk through it but not to this part yet I guess :)  So if we change the pick ticket are we just supposed to remember that it needs one more eventually or does it show up somewhere?  Thanks

to break this down hopefully more clearly:

I need 10 of component A to make the finished good MO.  GP inventory says I have 10.  I go to pull off the shelf and I actually have 9.  what is the best method to assign 9 to this MO but leave it still requiring 1 of comp A?

Mr Whaley I believe this is similar to your response but in terms I understood courteously of Peter Kelly from MRP consulting:

I am thinking that the problem is being caused by the timing of various steps in your workflow.

The Picklist is a different document than the Picking Document. The Picking Document gets created from the component transaction window. By saving this picking document you create Pending Transactions.

Are you printing the PickDoc or the Picklist ?

If you were to work from the Picklist I believe the problem may go away.

    I recommend:

    1.       Generate the Picklist straight from the MO window and deliver this to the guys for picking.

    a.       They can return marked up Picklists when pick completed.

    2.       Have the marked up Picklist in hand when starting the Mo Component Transaction Entry and edit the picking doc directly from there, before saving the picking document.

Test this flow and see does the problem disappear.

    -------------

This does seem to work for us in limited testing thus far - just needed the order of operations

    RE: Manufacturing 'Pending issue' issue

We have had this issue repeatedly for the last 6 years, both in GP10 and GP2013.  We have identified a way to reduce/eliminate the issue.  Here's what works for us:

We create an Issue Pick Document for 10 pcs of item A.

The warehouse can only find 9 pcs of item A.

They open the created Issue Pick Document, select Item A (click the checkbox next to it), and click "Remove".

Click on the "Items" tab (you will probably want to enter the affected MO number in the Start and End Ranges before doing this, or you will be searching through all of your MOs).

From the "Items" tab, change the quantity of Item A to 9, check Item A's checkbox, and click "Add to Pick Doc".

Click the "Pick Doc." tab to confirm that Item A has been added.

    Save (or post if ready).

Painful work around for sure, but this eliminates the need to use SQL and let's the user address the issue without involving a DBA.

    RE: Manufacturing 'Pending issue' issue

I am having this issue as well, but it appears to only be with inventory items that are "Flat Fee"   Any thoughts on whether this could be a "setup" issue?  Or is it just a bug that has progressed from GP 2010 to our current version of 18.3?
