Lead source field in the opportunity entity mapping

Hello,

I am having trouble mapping lead source field from lead source to the opportunity entity. I created a new lead source field in the opportunity and set the data type same as the one in the lead source. Do I need to create a new 1:N relationship in lead source or opportunity entity? Also, am I supposed to copy the labels and values under options section? Please let me know. Any help would be appreciated.

This is helpful. I was able to go into the already established map relationship between Lead and Opportunity to do this. I created a text field for Lead Source Name and mapped it to the opportunity form. Now whomever is assigned to this opportunity can see the lead source and the lead name that is associated, as well as the originating lead Id.

Just for the sake of the people who will came into this topic in the future - you don't have to use Global Option Set to make a mapping. You can use standard Option Set and just put the same values as in the Options set that was on the Lead entity and it will work (of course you have to do the mapping). What you described in the first post was ok - you just did not fill the values for the option set.

I finally got it fixed! I missed the mapping step on your screenshot. I got confused when you highlighted leadid and I didn't see that you created a mapping for Test Option Set. Thank you for your help! I appreciate it!

You did verify that you changed the field on the opportunity page to the new one right?

Thank you for screenshots. I copied your settings and it is mapped same as yours. It still wouldn't carry over. I am not sure what else I should do?

RE: Lead source field in the opportunity entity mapping

Hi Vincent, I just verified and it worked for me.  I am guessing you have not replaced the Lead Source on the header of the form with the new field you have created that is mapped to the global option set?

I did the following steps to verify it worked:

    1.  Created a new global Option Set with values 1, 2, 3 and display values of A, B, C respectively

    Screen-Shot-2016_2D00_11_2D00_29-at-6.10.54-PM.png

    2.  Created a new field on the Lead called Test Option Set that was defined as a Option Set connected to the global option set

    Screen-Shot-2016_2D00_11_2D00_29-at-6.09.19-PM.png

    3.  Created a new field on the Opportunity that mapped to the same global option set

    Screen-Shot-2016_2D00_11_2D00_29-at-6.10.04-PM.png

    4.  Setup mapping for the field from the Lead to the Opportunity (see in middle of page)
    Screen-Shot-2016_2D00_11_2D00_29-at-6.10.54-PM.png

I then added the fields to the forms and I set the value to A (i.e. 1) on the Lead and this carried over to the Opportunity.  I also verified with C (i.e. 3) and this carried over as well.

Hopefully the problem is you are still displaying the wrong field on the Lead form and that is it.

    Thanks,

Hi Vincent, the lead source should carry through if you have it mapped.  I will try myself to verify, hopefully tonight.

    Thanks,

RE: Lead source field in the opportunity entity mapping

You don't have to use global option set. This is not working for you because on Lead you are using standard lead source field, and because of the marked answer you created a new option set and mapped this to new option set on opportunity. You should not create a new option set on lead - you just have to make sure that the values in both Option sets are the same and this will work. Global option set makes sure that you have the same values in both places, but you can achieve that using normal Option set

    So to sum up:

    1) Remove the global option set and both custom fields you have on lead and opportunity (so basically go back to what you had in the beginning)

    2) Create a normal Option Set field on Opportunity. You have to fill it with exactly the same values (labels do not matter) as the values on lead. You will have a prompt if you enter for example value = 1 that this value is outside of the values for current solution - just ignore that

    3) Create a mapping

    And this should work correctly.

The verified answer in this topic is a little misleading, because it implies that only global option sets can be mapped between entities - that is not true.

RE: Lead source field in the opportunity entity mapping

One more question. When I qualify a lead and convert it to an opportunity, it doesn't keep track of lead source field from the lead form. So, I had to select lead source field again on the opportunity form. Is this normal? or the lead source field should be already selected on the opportunity form?

    see this screencast: http://recordit.co/yv4cSmrSmE

You will notice that I had to select lead source field again on the opportunity form.

Thank you! I was able to get it to work by using global option set.
