Explosion reservation in Sales Order

Hi D365 experts,

I am trying to Use the Explosion reservation in the Sales Order reservation tab. As per definition of Explosion when we create a sales line the individual BOM components should get reserved. But when i am trying this this is not happening. The idea is to get the BOM components also reserved .

For example: Lets we have an item FG and its BOM components are C1 and C2. One quantity of C1 and C2 is use to get 1 FG.
Now when I add FG in Sales order line I want C1 and C2 to get reserved.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS: The item FG Report as finished is YES.

RE: Explosion reservation in Sales Order

    Hi everyone,

If I am not mistaken, D365 will create the planned production order (assuming the item is a make item) whether or not the components are available on-hand, assuming there is insufficient FG on-hand to meet the sales line requirement, even without using the reservation type 'Explosion'.  So I am not sure why there is a need for such option.

    Hi Jonty,

Reservation type "explosion" will not reserve components or even FG item. It will run master planning to decide if FG item is available on-hand. If yes, it will reserve it. If not, it will check if all components are available on-hand. If yes, it will create one planned production order for FG item. It will be up to you to firm it to create actual production order and then create picking list journal for production order to reserve components. If not all components are available on-hand, it will also create planned purchase or production orders (depending on item's default order settings) for missing ones. That is how it works.
