    While it is a double hop, it is still relatively simple.  You would want to upgrade 2015 to 2016 and then 2016 to 365.  Generally speaking you want to have separate environments for the 2016 and 365 destinations so you are isolating things.  Steps wise, it is all covered in the CRM Implementation guide.  If you need more help with it I would suggest reaching out to a CRM Partner.

    There are a few ways to do this migration, either in-place or new SQL server or keep existing SQL Server.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../hh699716(v=crm.8)

    You should migrate from 2015 -> 2016 -> 8.2 (365).

    If you are looking for 265 v9, then there is one more upgrade step.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

    Approach 1: Upgrade from CRM 2015 to Dynamics 365 v9.0 (onprem)

    Upgrade from CRM 2015 to Dynamics 365 v9.0 is two hop process, 2015 -->2016 -->Dynamics 365

    - In this approach you will take backup of your 2015 database and create a new org on CRM 2016 server. Once you do that your database will undergo changes related to 2016. Then from 2016 you will have to do the same for D365 9.0 (on prem).

    -Separate Data migration is not required as database will be upgraded

    -Entire upgrade process including remediation of unsupported customization will be handled by TCS

    Approach 2: Deploy the solutions from 2015 directly to D365 Online

    In this approach you can directly deploy your existing 2015 solutions onto D365 online.

    - Need to fix the errors once deployment is finished.

    - Need to perform migration yourself. As only solutions will be uploaded to D365 and not data.

    - You can use tools like SSIS + Kingswaysoft OR SCRIBE for data migration.

    Approach 3: Redesign from scratch in D365

    - Develop solution again (functional and technical)

    - Do the relevant data migration using tools like SSRS/SCRIBE

    Summary:

    - All the approaches have its own pros and cons

    - I have used approach 2 couple of times for different clients and it works fine. This approach ensures minimum down time.

    Hope this helps,
