Hi!
In addition to SmartList mentioned here, GP has a couple of hundred reports already written in Excel that are fully integrated with GP and linked to the database so they are 'refreshable' (you are pulling live data). You have to 'deploy' them so you most likely do not have them installed in the sample company. Go to the Administration area page in the Setup Content Pane. Under the System menu go down to Reporting Tools Setup and select it. When the Reporting Tools Setup window opens hit F1 and read the help screens about the Data Connections and Reports Library tab. The reports work beautifully with Excel 2007..
You will also see in this window that there is an SSRS report setup. There are also pre-built SSRS reports that come with Dynamics, but that is a different setup from the Excel Reports.
Also, version 10 has something called 'Navigation Lists'. Navigation Lists are available from the Navigation Pane. If you hit the Financial Series button on the Navigation Pane, several items will be listed at the top. 'Financial' is first, this brings up the Financial Area Page. The second item in the Navigation Pane is 'Accounts'. Select Accounts and the Accounts Navigation List will open. Navigation Lists have tons of other functionality, but you can also select items (all items or specific items) and export it to Excel. To export to Excel, select a few items and click on the Go To button in the upper RH corner of the toolbar. A menu will drop down, one of the options is 'Send to Excel'. You can also put an unlimited number of filters on these lists to zoom in on just the data you want.
While the old canned reports are mostly text reports, you can use the built-in Report Writer to make them 'Excel friendly'. Kind of a pain, but sometimes easier because of the table relationships.
Whew, there are TONS of reporting options available, and the list continues to grow in GP 2010 (the next version). So, take a closer look and I think you will be very pleased at what you find.
Sorry for the run-on reply, but I would hate for you to turn away from GP without exploring all of the options.
Kind regards,
Leslie
You can also of course customise the reports themselves to lay them out better for Excel
Look at Smartlists and/or customising your own with Crystal Reports or SQL Reporting Services.
