Cannot send outgoing emails if the Batch email provider parameter set to SMTP

We cannot send outgoing emails if the Batch email provider parameter set to SMTP. If we change it to Exchange it's working. I would like to understand the difference between the two.
Error:
 
Unable to send email as 'email' from the 'email' account, please check the /Send as/ permissions on the 'email' account.

    It depends on your email account setup, if you are using smtp it will allow you to send with having all the send as permission to the email id.

    Hi,
    This would be probably missing the setting that needs to be done in Microsoft 365 to allow your email address to send emails via SMTP. Your email account needs to have permissions to send mails on behalf of the email account setup in email parameters. You can refer to this official documentation: Allow members to send as or send on behalf of a group | Microsoft Learn. A member of a Microsoft 365 group who has been granted Send as or Send on behalf permissions can send email as the group, or on behalf of the group. This article explains how a global or Exchange administrator can set these permissions.

    You need to access the admin center and give the appropriate 'Send as ' permissions.
