As of 2015 does Microsoft have adressed the tax issue in built-in shipping fields???

Is there any custom module that have been created to fix this issue.

Is there any programmer that already look into this or would be interested working on this ...

Have you looked into ShipRush?  I know they have custom shipping module for RMS.  Not sure if it charges tax though.

I would be willing to at-least investigate if tax options could be changes for shipping.  I know right now RMS is static on shipping.

Also some states think shipping should be taxable and others say if it listed separate it should not be taxable.

Can you email me specific details on what you need?

We already use Shipstation so shiprush is not an option

What we need is pretty simple , we want any value entered in the shipping field to be taxed (GST + PST )

    that's it ,

The response i got from the RMS community so far is that the rms SDK is not editable so it is almost impossible to customize this.

I am extremely upset that Microsoft have not already address this issue in one of their service pack as in Canada it is mandatory to tax any shipping charge,

Thank you Ed for your help , let me know

Does Shipstation integrate into RMS or are you make use of it separately?

By integrate, I mean you press a button on the RMS screen and it asks which carrier/service and it rings up an amount and enters the shipping info for you?

If Shipstation is separate, then the simplest way would be to create an item called "Shipping".  That item would be taxable and prompt for a price.  You could still record your tracking information using the shipping function button if you want.  Or you could override the description on the "Shipping" item.   This is the simplest only if you don't integrate to a web cart or any thing that relies on the shipping information to be entered in the shipping function.

The other thing that could be done easily is the shipping amount entered into the rms shipping function be bumped by the tax amount.  This will not however report shipping amount and tax amount separately.  So for accounting you would have to back out the tax charges manually.

If division of shipping amount and taxes is required then there is a lot of work to be done and you are correct, it is not easy.

You have a couple options then.  The first is to manually add a “Tax Item” to the work order prior to tendering.  This item would have to manually split out from sales by your accountant.  If you are use this method, Make a separate Shipping Tax Department and Category.  This will keep things separate and make reports a little easier.  Also if you integrate to Quickbooks or another accounting package directly then you can assign this a GL code that goes to a tax account instead of a sales account.  Obviously this item would have to be manually calculated by the cashier when they close the order.

If that doesn’t work for you, then an addon will have to be created.  This addon would need ring up a shipping item in work order.  The shipping item would be taxable.  This addon would take the internal shipping amount and ringup the shipping item. Then it would zero out the internal shipping amount.   The item would then charge the tax. And the cashier could finish the sale normally.

    Freddorias Response.

Nchannel just got back to be with a similar solution , instead of mapping the shipping charge of magento into the shipping charge field of RMS , they will map it to a specefic item in RMS ,in our case a non inventory item called Shipping . I think this workaround is easier to handle.
