Management Reporter displaying the same ridiculous numbers in each column for each department

Posted on by 100

I have one report that shows 10 departments P&L (one column per department), and this report worked fine in FRx.  We are now on 2013 and each column shows wrong data.

Column Type            FD

Book Code               Actual

Fiscal Year               Base

Period                       Base

Periods Covered       YTD

Reporting Unit           (I have the department code for each column)

When I use a Reporting Tree (which worked with FRx), I get Errors;

  • A valid report date
  • Valid dimensions and accounts
  • A valid reporting tree unit

If I just use the P&L without the Reporting Tree, I get absurd numbers repeated in each column.  The P&L works fine when I go by each separate department, so I know the accounts and dates work.  So what does the Dimensions supposed to look like and / or what is the Reporting Tree supposed to look like since report worked with FRx?

Your answer was half right for my situation.  I now know that FRx included the Summary statement and I don't with MR is one correction, and the second correction was using the Dimension Filter in MR from the FRx reporting units; the latter what you pointed out.  I thank you for your time with your answer.

Since you are restricting data for each column, why not use a Dimension Filter instead the Reporting Units from the Tree.  Change each column to use the appropriate Dimension Filter for each Department (using the segment of the GL).   You should get the report results you are looking for.

I'm using the same format that you show in your Dimensions column.   I deleted what I had in Row Definitions since you did not show that.  And – just for fun – I changed the first line to @ANY for the company like you show, but I still got the same result.  So I replaced @ANY with the real company in the drop down list getting the same answer.

Make sure that the report was generated with the following settings:

           A valid report date

           Valid dimensions and accounts

           A valid reporting tree unit

Those are all valid reporting units that worked in FRx; what makes them invalid with management reporter?  I played with the various options in the Default base period on the Generate screen, with the same error for all but one; the S-1 option gave me another error message saying that 505 is not in the reporting tree ... well it’s kinda is “there” but what’s the format that this Reporter is looking for that I obviously am oblivious to?

The Row Building Block works for each individual department, so the account numbers are correct and the departments are correct with report date chosen from the drop down menu options ... which leaves Dimensions ... which is exactly the same format that you show (assuming reporting tree unit = department).

If the report is by department, the tree only needs the department segment, in the Dimension column.  You don't need the full account mask in the tree like you did in FRx.  With MR, you can have just the department segment in the tree.  You don't need the full account with ampersands in the main segment.  The example below shows a tree created with departments only.
