How Can I Add a New Company

We currently maintain 5 different companies under Microsoft Dynamics SL Version 6.5 (General Ledger/Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable modules) for our organization. I was informed we will need a 6th company. Can we add a 6th company, or does this require some type of upgrade???  Direction/comments/questions appreciated! Thanks!

    Kevin,

The main questions that need to be asked are will the new company have a different base currency.  Will it have a different Chart of Accounts or subaccts.  If the answer is NO and if you also have multi company(which I think you do) then a new company can be created in an existing database.  This is a simple process.   If the answers are yes in that there is new base currency or COA, then a new database has to be created which is a bit more work.

    Peter -

Thanks. Yes, we are multi-company and will have same base currency. I added the new company under Utilities, Company Maintenance but the system does not allow me to create a ledger entry. Entering vouchers does not appear to be working either. I have a feeling it relates to the Database Name but not sure. Assigned database name existing companies are combinations of large caps/small cap letters. However, when adding the new company it restricts everything to Caps for the Database name. Direction on step(s) I am overlooking very much appreciated!

    Kevin,

What error do you get when you try to do a journal entry in GL.  Does it have any accounts or subaccts.  Check the company and domain table in your system database and make sure that this company has a COA and SUB.  It should have the master company COA and SUB if it is sharing a database.  Also check the intercompany table to ensure that it has it's own entry too.

Email me at slmaster@sky.com if you are still having issues.
