UoM does not exist for this item

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We're getting the "The unit of measure does not exist for this item" error on one of our parts.

We're trying to enter the part into the purchase order entry screen with a UoM of "each"

If you pull up the part, it's defined to be sold as "each"

Any ideas?

It worked for me as well but does anybody knows what caused this behavior and most important how to prevent it. On my end, I have over 65 Price List and when I apply this fix, then I lose all the pricelist and it is very inconvenient to copy them back.  Thank you for all your help.

    That worked for me!!

You do have to print screen the item price list maintenance before changing the u of m schedule because it will get wiped out.

    Thanks

Oh, I see now.  It's almost as if your UofM schedule on the Item Maintenance window is missing or invalid .  The Purchasing window  would populate from the main UofM schedule to seed the available values for that item.  Try and change the UofM on the Maintenance window but be sure you change it to a schedule that has each in it.

Oh, I think I see what you mean now...I just compared with another part and saw the difference.

However, I'm unable to add anything; it appears to be locked out

Unfortunately it was already set that way.  There is no "default purchasing U of M", but when I hit the lookup, there was nothing to choose from

Open Item Maintenance and select the item.  From the Go To button in the upper right choose Purchasing.  Here you need to define 'Each' as a purchasing UofM and you should probably set the default also.

You can take this logic further and set UofM's at the Vendor level (choose Vendors, the next Go To) but that is not required.

I think that will handle this.
