Automapping fields between entities that have 1 exisiting relation present

When I create a task from a case it automatically sets “in regarding” the subject of the case. This is great but I want more automatic mappings like say the account name of the case to map also

I’ve tried doing workflows, and equations but I can’t seem to get it to map because I’m looking for a vlookup type mapping

Like if a Case is set in regarding to a customer and that customer has a version number text field…….I want the case to auto-populate the version number of the referenced account (assuming I have built out a custom field to hold the same text value)

Also if I have a case with a defined account/customer, I want that to automatically map to the task I am creating, assuming I am creating the task from a case

I guess what I’m asking is for fields to be automatically mapped between entities. Is there a way to copy and paste a field from one entity into another for it to map automatically?

I do not know how to code by the way, so I am a little limited and any screen shots would be helpful

Actually that did not work after further investigation. See attached picture

    Theo,

The mapping will only work if you create the record of entity 2 from the Account directly...

Either from subgrid or associated view, not from you create new entity 2 then you choose Account or customer then auto-filled all.

This is how the CRM mapping works, kind of limitation, you need to use javascript or you can use realtime workflow (but realtime workflow only work after you save, not just after you choose Customer and then all fields will be auto-filled).

You can try from the Account --> Meeting Report subgrid/associated view then you create new Meeting report record, should be all of fields you defined as the mapping fields from the links given by Chitra will be auto filled.

But, if you create Meeting report record outside from the Account, you will not get the mapping.

You can create a workflow, as per mentioned, it is realt time but once saving only, not onchange, for onchange event (once the account chosen), you need a javascript onchange event.

Another workaround, do you still need the mapping?

Since you are using CRM 2013, What if I recommend you to create a quick view form of Account and put on the entity Meeting Report, once you choose the account, the fields will be appearing in the Meeting report, this is will be a reference field to the account, virtually appearing but in fact the fields are still in the Account, not to the Meeting report entity.

Like what you can see in the Case or Opportunity once you change the Potential Customer.

    See these links:

    Hope this helps!

    THanks.

    Theo,

For workflow, you can fill the value using the related entity lookup, see this post:

    http://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2013/11/25/retrieving-data-from-a-related-entity-crm-2013/

But, again, workflow only when you save the record, cannot onchange event.

    Thank you.
