Updating Reservation Hierarchy Without Impacting Inventory Transactions

Hello Experts,

The Reservation Hierarchy is currently set to 'BatchBelow' at the item level. I have now created a new hierarchy, 'BatchAbove', and would like to apply it to the existing items. However, when I run the update job (Change Reservation Hierarchy on items), I receive an error message as below. I want to retain the existing inventory transactions and avoid deleting quantities from columns mentioned in the error message.

Is there a way to change only the reservation hierarchy without affecting current inventory data?

I have the same question (0)

    Good day,

Could you try to remove/cancel the open orders and try it again?

    Best regards,

    Hi Nimi,

There is no easy way for that. You can probably get a developper to develop a routine and possibly bypass some system validation, but if you it manually you can't really get around removing inventory and inventory transactions.  Later in the process you will very likely encounter other conditions that need to be met,  such as performing an Inventory Close, depending on your item's Item Model Group

Would recommend making the whole change in a test environment taking good notes of what need to be done and in what sequence.   You can remove inventory and remove inventory transactions and return them to their original values relatively easily.  But there is quite a bit of coordination required to suspend use of these items while you are doing the change.

Alternative is to create another released product but that still entails moving inventory and recreating transactions (and losing historical data).  You will be able to assess pros & cons after completing the change for an item in a test environment.
