Import msg files to email activities

Does anyone know the best solution to import .msg email files into Dynamics 365 as email activities?

I have one folder with about 10k email msg files (msg files include attachments). All have an unique name and there is a Excel sheet that describes what email belongs to what account. Idealistic the e-mails can be found as activities at the addresses that they belong to after migration.

At the moment I'm exploring Kingswaysoft and Microsoft Flow. But it looks that I always have to separately import the email, activity and attachments separately. Isn't there another way?

Thanks in advance.
Elowy.

HI Elowy, To map from, To and cc fields are little complicated as they are Party fields.

KingswaySoft has special support for party list where the party record could be populated using JSON input check out the section on "What format of data do I expect to read from a CRM activityparty (partylist) field in a CRM source component" under KingswaySoft FAQ

Might be a good idea to do the first pass to load the email without the to and from details and do an upsert action to update the details.

    Hi Kunaltripathy,

Thanks so far! Just a last question; how can I import the from: and the to: email addresses so they refer to an existing contact(s) in the target system? Or do you know where I can find information on this subject?

    Thanks,

    Elowy.

    Hi Kunaltripathy,

Maybe you can help me out. With your help I was able to import the emails and attachments (as annotations). From the annotations I link to the email. However, when opening an email, I don't see the attachments in the attachment area. Do you have a suggestion how I can see the attachments from the email entity form?

    Thanks,

    Elowy.

Thanks Kokulan and Kunaltripathy. I think both solutions will work well. Opening the emails with Outlook and link them to the right contact is rather easy and works well. However I have a large number of emails, so I will try to import them with Kingswaysoft first.

HI Elowy, You can use Kingswaysoft to do this migration and you can do it in 1 package with two steps/data flow. fisrt step will be to Read the folder and excel files and create activity record as per the account and email mapping. for reading the files in the folder you can use premium derived column component , 2nd step will be to upload the email as annotation/Notes associated with the email record.

What about if you import the .msg into outlook and then track those in CRM?  You can use the folder tracking or traditional email tracking. Folder tracking would be better i guess as you could just have a Common account mapped to that folder and import all emails in outlook to that folder and once emails created in CRM, you can then move them around? I have not tried this but dont see why its not a possibility
