How do I migrate GP to a new computer server?

I'm trying to move my existing Great Plains 4.0 software and primarily the database to a new laptop.

I could not locate any documentation to support this process on the website.  I link to the steps involved would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting the following error message:

BCP Utility - Data was not copied correctly to server.  Verify ODBC settings & BCP are correctly installed.

If it truly is GP 4 it is not compatible with Vista of W7 so it will not work. What version of SQL are you using? GP 4 was most likely compatible with SQL 2000 or earlier. It will not work with the newer versions.

The GP is version 8.0 and the SQL is 2000

Most likely you need to turn UAC off.

    Also,

Use 'run as administrator' when launching Dynamics Utilities.

    Kind regards,

    Also,

I do not believe you can update directly from 8 to 2010, you'll need to stop at 9 or 10 first.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Dennis,

Are you wanting to run dyn v 4 on your laptop, or just trying to move over the databases?

If you want to get GP to run, you are going to have a problem getting the client working. OS issues, and SQL issues. Do you have a 64 or 32 bit machine. Since GP is a 32 bit app, you need to create a 32 bit ODBC. Use the ODBC32 app in the SYSWOW folder.

Before I go on, let me know what you are trying to accomplish with regard to the client application.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

My laptop is 32 bit.  Where do in find the ODBC32 app in the SYSWOW folder?
