Refresh of Sandbox instance from Prod instance of different version

Currently our CRM online production and sandbox instance is at version 2015. we will be soon upgrading the sandbox instance to version 2016. After this upgradation, will i still be able to refresh/copy my sandbox instance from production as the two instances will be at different versions?

    I can confirm that you can.  We recently got a new Sandbox instance that came with 2016 Update.  I then restored our production instance to it (2015 Update 1) without problem.

    Just wanted to confirm the version of your instances:

    Production instance version: 2015 Update 1

    Sandbox Version: 2016 Update

    and you were able to copy the production instance to sandbox.  Right?

    Production: 2015 Update 1

    Purchased additional sandbox which defaulted to 2016 Update 1.  Then copied Production and restored to the new 2016 Sandbox which reverted it back to 2015 Update 1.  We've since scheduled it to update back to 2016 Update 1.
