MRP/ Inventory status blocked is not excluded

I have noticed the following:
In the MRP the flag "Inventory blocking" on the inventory status has no effect.
Is this a bug or is setup not correct?

Initial situation:
D365 Finance and operation, 10.0.42 (10.0.2095.129)

Inventory Status:

Tests:
I have 2 pcs available in stock.
Now I have created a sales order for 4 pcs, which triggers a planned order (no matter if it's a purchase or production order) for 2 pcs without any problems.
Then, if I delete the sales order and block (no matter if the inventory status is set via MDE and manually) the 2 pcs in stock an register a new sales order about the amount of 4, ther is only a planned order for 2 pcs.
For me, it looks like that the flag inventory blocking has no effect in the  MRP (we use the new functionality DDMRP)
I have the same question (0)

Hi there! Good morning, evening, or afternoon - depending on where you are :) Hope you are well today!
    • The issue you're describing appears to stem from how the "Inventory blocking" flag interacts with the MRP (Material Requirements Planning) process and DDMRP (Demand Driven MRP) functionality in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
    • Key Considerations:
      • "Inventory Blocking" Behavior
        • The "Inventory blocking" flag prevents inventory reservations but doesn't make the inventory completely invisible to MRP. This means that blocked inventory is still considered available for planning purposes (like triggering planned orders), as clarified in the tooltip you referenced: "Master planning will ignore blocked inventory and will try to replenish inventory."
        • In your scenario, MRP correctly ignores the blocked inventory and plans for the additional 2 pieces to meet the demand of the sales order for 4 pieces.
      • DDMRP Functionality
        • With DDMRP enabled, the inventory status might not fully align with standard MRP behaviors. DDMRP focuses on buffer management and might not inherently treat "Inventory blocking" as an exclusion criterion unless specified in the buffer configurations.
    • Potential Solutions:
      • Custom Configuration for Inventory Blocking and DDMRP:
        • If you need blocked inventory to be entirely excluded from MRP (even in planned orders), a customization might be required. You can work with a developer to modify the inventory blocking logic within the MRP planning engine to meet your specific needs.
      • Verify MRP Setup:
        • Ensure that your MRP setup is aligned with your business requirements:
          • Check the coverage groups and item coverage settings.
          • Confirm how blocked inventory is accounted for in your MRP and DDMRP configurations.
      • Test with Standard MRP:
        • To isolate whether the behavior is related to DDMRP, temporarily disable DDMRP and test the same scenario. If the issue persists, it is likely tied to the "Inventory blocking" functionality.

    Good day,

Could you check whether the inventory status is marked for 'Coverage plan by dimension' on the storage dimension group of your item?

    Best regards,
    Laurens van der Tang
