CRM Outlook Plugin Install Error "There is a missing Windows update on this system"

Hi, we are on CRM 2016 on Premise version 8.2. We just upgraded a user workstation to Windows 10. When trying to install Outlook CRM 2016 plugin 64 bit version, we got an error:

"There is a missing Windows update on this system. This update is necessary to run the configuration wizard for Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook. Please follow the Help link to download and install the update."

We clicked the Help link which is on here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4341501/there-is-a-missing-windows-update-on-this-system-this-update-is-necess

Basically the resolution is to install a Windows update, but it's specific only to Windows 8, which does not work in our situation because the user's machine is Windows 10.

Any suggestion to fix this issue in Windows 10? Or is there a Windows update for Windows 10 only?

Thanks -tri

I know it says its for Windows 8 but have you tried downloading and installing on Win10 to see if it fails due to wrong OS version

This page has some interesting references to update issues

If it is windows 10, the install error may not relate to the windows update.

Basically, crm outlook client tries to check whether outlook is initialized, and some exception happened during the check.

You can check the exact exception happened during the check like following:

    1. Open the crm outlook client log

    2. Search for Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.Validator.IsOutlookInitialized

You should find something like below:

    17:47:33|Verbose| Method entry: Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.Validator.IsOutlookInitialized

17:47:33|   Info| Query all rows in profile table

17:47:33|   Info| Outlook is not initialized

    17:47:33|Verbose| Method exit: Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.Validator.IsOutlookInitialized

For your case, there should be some exception happened between "Method entry: Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.Validator.IsOutlookInitialized" and "Method exit: Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.Validator.IsOutlookInitialized". The exception error format should be "IsOutlookInitialized() failed with the error : ....". You should be able to find it in the log.

In addition, what is the exact install scenario here? Are you trying to install the fresh dynamics 365 for outlook v8? or upgrading an existing v8 rtm client to 8.2? What is the exact version number you are trying to install?

    Hello,

Thanks all for the reply. The issue is fixed now. We reinstalled the Outlook plugin with the one from the CRM website link. Not sure what's the differences with the ones downloaded from the Microsoft website.
