Data Import: CRM 2015 Date Format Issue

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi Experts,

We are trying to import records in one entity. Apart from many other columns, the import excelsheet has 3 date columns where the date format is "d/M/yyyy" as the settings is English(Singapore).

When we are importing the records, the import job is throwing an error saying "the source columns are not in proper format".

Our excelsheet date value is "18/6/2019" which is giving error. But if we give "1/6/2019", there is no error because it is considering the date format as "MM/dd/yyyy" and inserting the value as "06 Jan 2019"

I believe this is a bug in CRM. Can you please confirm?

Same here and issue is happening with latest version of CRM15 i.e. 7.0.3.157 I guess.

Because it was working before and no issue from user end. After upgrade, they are complaining that same file was working before not anymore.

I drilled down and found the same reason as explained above.

    System settings: DD/MM/YYYY

    Personal settings: DD/MM/YYYY

CSV file format: DD/MM/YYYY ***Getting failed***

    CSV file format: MM/DD/YYYY ***Working***

Not sure at the end CRM is showing DD/MM/YYY but why not it is accepting the same format ?

    Hi,

    All the formats are same.

    Personal Settings: English(Singapore) date format - 18/6/2019

    System Settings: English(Singapore) date format - 18/6/2019

    Date column = 18/6/2019

    Import Failed

Error: Source column is not in the correct format

Personal Settings: English(United States) date format - 6/18/2019

    System Settings: English(Singapore) date format - 18/6/2019

    Date column = 18/6/2019

    Import Success

    No error

    Hi,

Please check the format of CRM environment by going to "System Settings". Set to the desired format and try importing once again.

Yes...That's what I was saying  - if I switch to US format(English - United States) in personal option, the file import is successful even though the data in the excelsheet is in d\M\yyyy format which is English(Singapore) format.

Its not right as per the functionality.

    Ok.

And if you switch to US format in personal option and import the records?

With the CSV file, there is no issue.

This issue is with the data import template file which I have downloaded from CRM.

    Hi Wouter,

Actually the date in the excelsheet is 18/6/2018(format- d/M/yyyy) and in the personal options settings also the format is "d/M/yyyy". Even though its showing as error.

But when I changed the date format to English(United States) (date - M/d/yyyy), the same date 18/6/2018 is imported successfully.

    Is it a system bug?

Make sure your format of the excel matches the format set on the user that is importing on the personal settings:
