Wastage in Assembly Orders

Hi

My clients currently use Dynamics GP and we are migrating to Business Central Essentials.

Currently in an assembly in Dynamics GP, they can enter the actual quantity of the component item used - even if it is more than the recipe called for - so that the actual quantity is consumed and the true cost of the assembly is calculated.

I can't see how to do this in Business Central.  If I enter an amount in Qty to Consume on the component line, I get an error saying the quantity consumed cannot be more than the remaining qty.

Advice please.

Cheers

Heather

Assembly is kitting so it’s exact. Production orders would be the equivalent to the GP process where the BOM can vary

And Production Orders are in the Premium licensing only?

You can record under usage and it works perfectly - just not overs - so that doesn't make sense.

The answer to this was provided by another forum.  Recording it here for anyone who comes looking.

When using Assembly (not Production) you need to edit the quantity in the "Quantity Per" column on the Assembly Lines.

    This does have two challenges:

    1) You need to know the Quantity Per - the trick with that is enter it as a calculation e.g. 100/8 (where you used 100 and are making 8 finished goods)

    2) You can have rounding issues - and when you have small quantities this becomes more of a problem. You should try to construct your Assembly BOMs around units of measure that minimise this issue.
