Adding Customer if not present in an Integration (IM) of Receivables Transaction

We have Dynamics GP 2010 with Integration Manager 11. I'm trying for the first time to write an integration for Receivables Transaction.  When specifying Customer ID field, how do I determine if that customer already exists, and add a new customer if it doesn't Exist?

I would recommend creating a customer integration, and creating the source file by comparing your source system to Dynamics GP, and only importing the exceptions.

We tried that, however, we found it was faster if we take the same source data, that contains all the 'necessary to create customer' data in the IM data from the internal source and run it twice through the system for the users.

It is of course done as a group and therefore the user only runs one integration but the first one runs the Add customer and the Second one runs the add Invocie and ALL the customers are always there.
