Inbound process - Putaway - Put location

Hi,

Im doing the Inbound process for a customer and while putaway the location is populated based on the location directive id=XYZ.

But if i dont specify a Location directive ID in the query the system populates a random location during my inbound put process.

I would like to scan a license plate and put the pallet into a location i scan and not based on system suggestions.

Yes i can override this location but thats a extra step for the user.

How can i ensure the user decides the put location and not the location directive or the system generated location.

I use the purchase putaway menu with directed by user, mode - work and use existing work.

Looking forward for you inputs.

When i dont choose a criteria in my location profile id then the system always suggests a random put location.

If i enter a location in the criteria it puts to the specified location.

Thanks.

    Hi Maharaja,

You can go to the Location Directive and select purchase order in the order type.

Then Use the Location directive crested for the respective warehouse and look into the Location Directive Actions,

Use the Edit query. and empty the Location Profile or Location or Zone used there.

Then system would not provide a location automatically.

    Hi Scott,

The first and second step did the trick for me.

Would try the other solution when required in future.

    Thanks.

    Cheers.

What you'd need to do is on your location directives delete the location directives where work order type = purchase orders.  With no location directive there the work that is generated will have a blank location and force the user to scan a location.  You probably have some sort of location directive setup under purchase orders where the location is coming from.  The system doesn't randomly pick a location.

You would also need to ensure that under Warehouse Management Parameters ->Location Directive Failures you don't have purchase orders listed as work would not be generated.

Another way to approach this would be to use the one step receiving to receive the item from the truck to a staging location that you could specify in the purchase order location directive.  I.e. point all purchase receiving put work to location STAGE or something similar.  The use the inventory movement menu to move the item from STAGE to whichever location you wanted.
