unable to connect to the home page metrics url problem.  I can't figure this out.

Running 2 servers, server a has sql 2008r2, gp and is joined to the sharepoint 2010 sp1 farm.  server b is the sp server, central admin, and all the rest runs on this server.

Reporting services are working and all the gp reports have been installed in sharepoint - no problems with thie install or access all the reports and kpi's on either machine, but I can't get the gp home page metrics to load at all.

any ideas?

thanks,

bryce

You probably need to install MS Office Web Components on the affected computer.  On our GP10 installs, it required installing owc10se.msi or owc11.msi

Otherwise, you can just remove the metrics window from your home page.

Hi Mike and thanks for your reply.  I've had OWC11 installed on the GP server all along and the home page metrics were working fine prior to running the reporting services tool in GP 2010 R2 and configuring SharePoint based reporting and metrics.

I'll keep digging as I beleive that disabling a feature that doesn't work in not really a solution.

    Thanks,

    Bryce

Have you tried installing the older OWC 2003 components?

    Bryce,

Thanks for using the newsgroups.  What version of GP are you using?  What version of SQL?  What version of the SRS addin have you installed?  Have you deployed srs reports using GP yet?  Did you configure the home page to show srs reports?  If yes, are you seeing anything there?

    Thanks

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply.  I was fairly certian I had followed all the documentation so I tried the following:

    • Removed the SSRS reports and went back to the 'old' GP home page metrics.  I verified that these we once again displaying properly.
    • Installed the GP 2010 R2 workflow components on the web server.  This required the web server admin account be granted superuser access to GP web services which are running on the SQL Server/GP machine.
    • Re-ran reporting tools setup in GP and installed only the reporting services, sharepoint integrated reports (not Excel reports)

Now I can load the reports/metrics in the GP home page on the GP server, but several of the reports return a red X instead of a graphic.  The reports and kpi's all run and display properly on the web server.

Back to the drawing board... must have something to do with having Office installed on the web server but not on the SQL/GP server?

    Thanks,

    Bryce

    Bryce,

It sounds like you made some progress.  I don't think Office should affect the outcome of the home page metrics.  Could you tell me specifically what reports are returning the red x for you?  It seems odd that some reports would work and others would not.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Rob,

From limited testing it seems that KPI's are reports with charts are returning the red x's.  This was not the case when I was running the non-ssrs metrics on the GP home page so I wonder if it could be related to OWC11 which is still installed on the GP server?

    Thx,

    Bryce

As mentioned before...install OWC10 and your charts will work.

    Hi Mike,

Seriously?  I'm not a programmer but it seems like insanity that a version of a dll wriiten 7-8 years ago for Office XP could (or should) be required to enable new functionality for the latest version of GP.  Is there even a version of OWC10 available that will run on a 64-bit 2008 R2 Winodws server?

Can you give me some idea of why this would work?

    Thanks,

    Bryce

I agree that it doesnt make sense, but apparently the charting control function hasnt changed much since office xp.  We had the same issue, and I had read that installing OWC would fix it.  However, when I installed OWC11, the issue continued.  Since the charts worked on older PC builds, and not fresh builds with Office 2007, I tried the earlier version of the OWC and it worked.  Give it a try...not much downside if it doesnt work.
