Can I Map a Field in Accounts to Show up In Contacts Related to that Account?

Hi All,

I'm still trying to get a grasp on mapping. I have a field in my accounts called concepts. I would like it to also appear in the accounts related contacts. Is there a shorter way to do this besides making a new field in contacts and manually adding the concept into each contact?

Thanks for your time!
Kimberly

If your requirement is just to add contacts based on this value to marketing list then there is no need to even add quick view form to the contact. All you have to do is build your advanced find based contacts company name field value Concept like below. i selected territory field value from account to search but you can choose concept field to search ...

    Hi Chitra,

Here's what I'm wanting to do.

I want to be about to search each contacts "concept" so I can add contacts to a marketing list built off of concept. Will I still be able to search/do this if I only have concept appearing as a quick view? I wasn't sure if that would be possible.

Thanks - I appreciate your (and everyone else's) help!

Mapping will work only when you create contacts from account record more over  if you change value in the account record this updated value won't be reflected in the contact record. Create a quick view form in account with concept field on it and add that quick view form in contact record this way, value will be up to date and there is no need to worry about from where you create contact.

Hello again everyone. Thanks for all of the ideas. I've been busy fixing other issues so this one had to be put on the back burner. So, picking up with Sanchita's last message - I'm going into account -> one to many relationships and i'm seeing multiple relationships I have built with my contact. Which of these looks correct? (parent, reference, etc.) Image is attached below.

Create a quickview form in account with the fields you want to see in contact form. Then add this quick view form in contact form. THis will be be done in 10 minutes without any workflow or new fields.

    Hi,

To set relationship mapping you have to go to Settings -> Customisations -> Accounts -> 1:N Relationships, select and open your relationship with contact, In Left Navigation section  'Mappings' you can select 'concept' field from account to map to target concept field i.i contact. This will copy accounts concept value to contact's concept on create of contact.

Secondly as suggested you can write WF against accounts which will fire on update of concept. You can add condition like if it has value then add 'Update' step for contacts and select account's field in contacts concept field in update window.

    Happy customizations!!

    Hi Ben and Sanchita,

Thanks so much for your responses. Ben, you go more in-depth about the workflow? What rules/ conditions would it have? Sanchita, in regard to relationship mapping, where would I go to do this? When I import records in from excel it gives me the option to map, but that's the only circumstance I've had thus far with mapping in CRM.

    Thanks again to you both!

The simplest way CRM offers is relationship mapping. You can try mapping 'Concept' field from both entities in 1:N relationship customization from account to contacts. Just ensure the datatype of both fields must be same and if its string the attribute length of Concept in contact must be atleast equal to Concept length in account.

Relationship mapping works while only create action. If the concept in account keeps changing then you can write a workflow on update of this field to copy the same value in Contact's Concept.

    Hope this helps.

Well you will definitely have to create the same type of field on contacts.

You could copy this value using a workflow, which would run on the contact record and copy the value from the parent account (checking if there is a value there before setting it).

you could then run the workflow on all the contacts, if there is a value it will copy it and if there isn't it would do nothing (assuming you created the correct condition in your workflow)
