Solomon is unable to login to the specified database

Friday morning 5/29/09, suddenly all Solomon 5.5 clients in our organization lost contact with the application databases.  When attempting the log back in, all clients are able to see the System database and select Companies, but when attempting to login, they get a message box stating that "Solomon is unable to login to the specified database" and requests the sa password to establish permissions.  Providing the password only displays the message box again infinitely.  No changes have been made to the server, the clients or the network environment.  I have verified that the System Company and Domain tables are correct and have rebuilt the Views (as others have suggested).  I also have verified that I can connect to the System database and all Application databases via ODBC using the sa account.

This occurs on all clients.  I have even trieds reinstalling the Solomon 5.5 client and SP3, but all attempts have lead to the same results.  I also tried installing SQL Server 7 on a new server and restoring the databases to the new server.  The results are the same with the new server.

Restoring the database to a previous backup has also has no effect.  If anyone has any suggestions for anything else I can try please respond.  I am out of ideas.

Thank you!

I was unable to find any solutions to fix the connectivity issue with the existing database server.  The problem is now fixed by installing a completely new database server on another server and restoring the databases.  We are now fully operational, but I am still uneasy with the fact that I still don't know what was happening on the old server.  If anyone else has ever experienced this, please let me know.

I don't know if this is the same issue or not but we experienced an outage that was caused by a windows update being installed on the server (can't remember if it was the SL server or the SQL server) but we ended up calling Microsoft and they gave me a hotfix to fix it.  The thread is here: https://community.dynamics.com/forums/p/12861/17796.aspx#17796

    Hope this helps.
