Shelf No. field Not available to personalise or customise on physical item journal page (page 392)

Hi all-

The Shelf No. Field is used for simple warehouse setups, with fixed item locations, where bins are not set up.
It's just a text field which is an attribute of item cards table (table 27)

I have tried both personalizing, and customizing (via the role page) the Physical item journal page (392) to add this field into the journal; but it is not available, unlike just about every other field on the item card.

We want to add the field to the journal so the journal lines can be sorted by shelf number, so data entry is sequential by location. i.e. Shelf A, B, C etc.

What is do different about the shelf number field that it cannot be personalized into some pages?
Is there a workaround to this which doesn't involve development?

I have the same question (0)

You can only add fields on the page that is available on the Page Source Table. In this case, "Item Journal Line" is the source for page 392, not table 27.  If you need that field, you must first add it to the Item Journal Line table as a flow field or similar, and then add it to page 393. Unfortunately, all these require some development.

    Clarification on Personalization vs Development
    🔹 Page 392 – Physical Inventory Journal
    • Source Table: Item Journal Line (Table 83)
    • Shelf No. is on Item (Table 27), not on the journal line table.
    • Therefore, Shelf No. cannot be personalized into Page 392 unless it exists on the source table.
    Why Development Is Required
To display Shelf No. on the journal page (e.g., Page 392 or 393), you need to:
    1. Extend Table 83 (Item Journal Line):
      • Add a FlowField or calculated field that pulls Shelf No. from the Item table using a Lookup.
    2. Extend Page 392 or 393:
      • Add the new field to the page layout so it can be viewed and sorted.
    3. Optional: Add sorting logic or grouping by Shelf No. if needed for data entry.
Note: This response was created in collaboration with Microsoft Copilot to ensure clarity and completeness. I hope it helps to some extent.

    Hello,

The Shelf No. field is not exposed on the Physical Item Journal (Page 392) by default, which is why it doesn’t show up in personalization. It’s stored on the Item table, but since the journal line comes from Item Journal Line table, it isn’t directly available there.

Without development, there’s no standard way to bring it into the journal page. The only workaround would be to export the journal to Excel, sort by Shelf No. from the Item table, and then work with it. Otherwise, you’d need a small customization to expose that field.
