XML Data Structure in Word Template not updating

Hi,

I was creating a word template on my lead entity and everything was working well. After some time I added a new field to the appointment entity (which I also use in this template) and now I want to use this new field in the template but it is not available. Also if I download a new template for the lead entity (with the same related entities but also we more entities) its not updating the available fields and tables.

Hope somebody can help me to update the XML used by Word.

HI ,

Your Question is not very clear .

It seems you need to download XML for Lead Entity for editing the customisations or u need to download template to import records ?

Hi Mario,

the field wont exist in your existing templates as the XML schema is stored in the Word document

The new field should be available is you download a new template

Thanks for your answer.

That's exactly what I expected. But if I download a new template nothing changes. It seems that the xml definition for my lead template is not updating. Do you know if this definition is saved within the word or if it is saved somewhere on my laptop? If so I wold delete it and try to download a new template.

Hi Mario,

Saved within the word doc AFAIK. Did you publish your change not sure if it makes a difference as field are usually available immediatley.

Hi Mario,

I just did a quick test and it should work as we discussed. I created a template for opportunity I then added a new field, without publishing, and created a second template. The new field was available in the second template but not the first.

Not sure why yours is not working

Hi Joe,

once again thanks for your effort. And of course you are right - the Word file gets updated!

My mistake was a simple one. I created the new fields not with my regular prefix but with "new_" instead. Sorry for making you work on this topic because of my slovenliness.

But there is one good thing - I had a closer look at the Word Template and how the table structure is saved in it. Here some insights:

If you change the ending of the Word document to zip and open the archive you will find a folder called \customXML with the file item.xml.

In this xml all fields and tables are listed and it would be possible to add more fields manually. Which is a option to update the template in case you have new fields you want to use. Downloading a new template and copying everything from the old to the new Word wouldn't be necessary any more.
