Connect CRM 2011 to Outlook

Hi all,

I am having an issue when trying to connect to CRM 2011 through Outlook - "There is a problem communicating with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. The server might be unavailable. Try again later. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator". I have tried a number of suggested fixes from previous articles/forums with no success.

CRM 2011 Win 2008 Standard R2

Client - Windows 7 | Outlook Version 14 (Part of Office Pro Plus 2010)

I can access the portal via IE (http://<server-name>/)

It is not an IFD. I have added a number of users, and given permissions. I have tried creating a self-signed cert and set the bindings through SSL - therefore I have tried both http:// and https://, both have been fine through the browser. I have also checked the time settings but this is not the issue.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Hello Marc,

Unfortunately this error message can mean many different things depending on where and what you are doing in the CRM 2011 Outlook Client.

If you are receiving this error message when trying to Configure the CRM Outlook Client for the first time. I would verify the following information:

    1. Ensure there is no firewall blocking access on the CRM server and the Workstation

    2. Ensure that the CRM Server url is listed in the Local Trusted Sites List, in I.E. Settings for the workstation.

    3. Verify in the I.E. Internet Options Connections Tab, Lan Settings Button, that Automatically detect network settings is checked. Or you have manually entered a proxy server if your organization is using one.

    4.  The Configuration Log may provide you with more details as to why it won't configure. in a Windows 7 environement this file can be found at c:\users\<user account logged in as>\appdata\local\microsoft\ mscrm\Crm50ClientConfig.log

If you receive this error message when using CRM, such as trackign an email, contact, appointment, synchronizing with the CRM Server. It would start by checking the following items:

    1. There is no Firewall or Proxy Server blocking/interfereing with communicate to the CRM Server

    2. The CRM Server URL is listed in the Local Trusted Sites, in I.E. for local networks.

    3. The CRM Server URL is listed in Trusted Sites for IFD URLS.

    4. Automatically detect Network settings is enabled in I.E.

    5. Users security role has proper permissions to perform the action.

Unfortunately, due to the nature and complexity of this issue we are unable to assist with this request effectively in the Forums. I would like to suggest the following resources to assist:

    * Submit a support incident so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with this request.

    Thank you for your understanding!

Hi Marc, Did you solve this issue? I have the same problem after changing our on-prem from HTTP to HTTPS.

    thanks!
