Problem: Trying to create a new company in GP Dynamics 5.5. Through Dynamics I have entered a company name (CORRY) and a company ID and have specified the company locations s:\accounting\dynamics\COR. Then Try to SAVE. I am asked to ‘A location translation must be created for the volume for where this company will be located. Do you want to create it? YES. I try to save the new company and message keeps appearing.

Hi, have a look in your dex.ini file for the "Pathname=" text. This will tell you where the data currenly is for your other companies. You can also log into an existing company and go to set up >> system >> location translation...to view what locations are being used. The info here is stored in sy02100. If all of the pathnames listed here are not the same, you may have to recreate your pathnames table. Look on partnersource for help on this one.

The sy02100 table is the company location pathnames table and gets updated when a new company is added. The sy03600 table is the location master table. It gets updated when a new workstation is added whose pathname is different from those already existing in sy03600.

Are you usig UNC or drive letter?

Are you doing this from a workstation or the server? If you launch GP Utilities, what happens? Do you get a location translation window?

Been with GP since version 1 and Location Translations were the bane of my life back when BTrieve was on the go!!!...Usually it was trial and error (with plenty of back ups taken at every stage) that got translation errors sorted.

    Hi JoAnn,

This is a tricky bit and I am assuming you're in Btrieve/Persasive SQL.  Location translation is actually in file SY03600.BTR (if my memory serves me correct, or SY02100.BTR).  Your drive mapping to S: is the key to the rest of the entries in location translation file.  Back in those days, I will recreate SY03600.BTR if it's stuffed up because of inconsistent/various mapping.  BTW, I recreate location translation table with a new install, create companies and pointing to the directory where SY03600.BTR entries will be consistent.

Let me know if you got stuck!

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Dencio

I seem to remember something when I first started working with GP (V6) about a location transalation table.  Have you completed this?

If you need help, there are several partners that have been around for a long time with techs that still know earlier versions.  Try calling Integrated Business Group at (407) 677-0370 and ask for Brian.  But wait until next week as he is on vacation this week.
